The Journey Begins

It’s 259 days away from archery opening day for Colorado, and I can’t stop thinking about it.

I have decided to embark on a journey — a journey to become a bow hunter. But I don’t see this just as another great sport to test my will physical abilities, determination and desire. I see it as really as a lifestyle that I am pursuing whole-heartedly. I feel called to reintroduce myself and my family to a more ancestral, simple way of life where we live more in harmony with the land around us.

Why?!

I’ve had a paradigm shift in how I think about my nutrition. I eat meat, and I have not plans to stop eating meat any time soon. I am an omnivore, as my ancestors were. There are plenty of theories and arguments against this out there, and I don’t condemn people for their theories or beliefs – this is just what I know to be true. But even though I eat meat, I have lived a life of ignorance with regards to how the top sirloin lands in my shopping cart. As we have relied on industrialized meat production I believe we have lost ourselves and the connection we once had to our world.

“I have become disgusted with my complacency, and I know it’s time for a change.”

I have become disgusted with my complacency, and I know it’s time for a change. And while I realize that this may not be for everyone, I know that I’ll feel good in knowing that I will be providing for my family and community by my own hand and that my success depends solely on me. I’ll feel good in knowing that that animal lived a free and wild life, away from humans, hormones, antibiotics and cages. I’ll feel satisfied that the animal was completely respected for it’s sacrifice and harvested as humanely as possible. That no part of that animal goes to waste, and that the meat I harvested was in my possession the entire time.

Eat. Breathe. Train. Sleep. Plan. Visualize. It’s a 365 mentality.

I am obsessed. There’s so much to learn, and I want to absorb it all. This journey permeates my soul, so every rep in the gym, every meal I eat, every mountain I climb — I am thinking about the hunt, and I am excited to share as much about the journey as I can through these updates and vlog posts.

“This is an experiment in authenticity — a hunter-gatherer life-hack.”

I see this as an opportunity to deconstruct and streamline the process to restoring a “hunter-gatherer” way of life. I see an opportunity for us to come together, learn from each other, be inspired together and build off of one another’s passion.

This is an opportunity for our world community to rekindle a more vibrant and authentic lifestyle by becoming more in-tune with and connected with nature, the beautiful world we live in. It’s and opportunity to join in on a time-honored tradition.

Getting comfortable with being uncomfortable.

My training will change. My body will change. My mind will change. Throughout this journey, I will be capturing it all and sharing it with you. I’d love to take you along for the ride. So, what do you say, are you in?
