It’s 244 days away from archery season.
We are still focused on power and strength building for the next several months while we continue to ramp up our shooting techniques. We are focused on moderate to heavy weight and we continue to vary our rep ranges and set activity.
Shooting Dynamics and Adverse Conditions
We hit the archery range at sunrise. It was 7 degrees when we arrived at the parking lot with a decent amount of fresh snow on the ground. I love the added challenge of the outdoor elements — having to block out the distractions, such as cold weather and snow, and hone in on the instinctual drive. We are focusing on multiple angle shots at varying distances to 3D targets. We are also getting comfortable with all of the potential distracting factors while judging quartering-away and quartering-to shots.
All Out Arm Assault
Today, we worked biceps and triceps. We hit super sets all the way through the workout. It’s fast, and it’s intense. If you haven’t already tried this, I highly recommend that you do. The pump you will get from this is seriously shirt-splitting and it’s a great way to tap into deep muscle fibers while stretching the facia and getting a great cardio benefit at the same time.
The Benefit and Draw-backs of Range Finders
I tried out my new Wildgame Innovations Halo XRT Laser Rangefinder today. So far I am very happy with it. I wish the HUD was lit for darker conditions, but it works great with lighter backgrounds. The auto-off is a nice feature to save batteries but it does require an extra button click, so keep that in mind. All things considered, the price was really right.
There are things I like about using a range finder and things that I don’t. I like how it can be an aid in getting comfortable with judging distances by eye, and help sight-in a new bow but I don’t like that it can be a crutch that you can come to rely on. Ideally I will have it while hunting and use it to scope various distances of bushes and other landmarks where I expect my prey to emerge, however I need to be ready to accurately judge distance if and when things don’t go according to plan. So I expect to be trying to use the range finder as little as possible, and only as an educational aid in helping me improve my distance perceptiveness.
