Greg’s friend Tex lives in a cabin on a 5 mile private private stretch of some of the most beautiful Colorado trout water I’ve ever seen. Species include Brown, Rainbow and Cutthroat.

This was my son Tobin’s first big overnight away trip, and he had an absolute blast, not only fishing, but also getting to know Tex and “driving” around in his super fast 4 wheeler.

My son is 6 and growing up so fast. He is watching intently and soaking it all in. I do my best to lead by example, but sometimes I fail, as we all do from time to time. There is only so much, as his dad that I can teach him about life. I’ve begun to realize the importance of introducing Tobin to men whom I admire and trust, who express good moral character. It is these men that will also help me lead my son into manhood.

This trip was a great introduction into manhood. I am blessed to have great men who can help me be great influences for my son as he grows.

In today’s culture (western culture especially) we have lost the significance of our walk into manhood. Many men are living with lost identities, and misplacing what it means to be a man.

For all the fathers or expectant fathers out there who are seeking to instill authenticity in their sons’ lives and who might be struggling with how to raise their sons into authentic manhood I highly recommend reading Raising a Modern-Day Knight

A real man…

  • Rejects Passivity – Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. Romans 12:2
  • Accepts Responsibility – Be on your guard, stand firm in the faith; be men of courage, be strong. 1 Corinthians 16:13
  • Leads Courageously – But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord. Joshua 24:15
  • Expects the Greater Reward – Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done. Revelation 22:12
